Upon reading our entire listing, we are often asked about the safety of the neighborhood. Before the Cocoon was an Airbnb, we used it as a long term rental for several years. Except for one, all of our previous long term tenants were single females. One was a single mom with a young daughter. All of them loved the Cocoon and had no problems with safety or the neighborhood. As an Airbnb, we frequently host single female college students in town for intensive courses.
On occasion, a neighbor will play music loudly, but otherwise things are typically quiet.
We realize everyone has their own level of what makes them feel comfortable, though, and we hope that this might help our guests decide if the Cocoon is right for them.
THE NEST: We're excited to announce that the main house upstairs is now available on Airbnb. "The Nest" Airbnb has a separate, private entrance, sleeping up to 5 guests. If you're interested in a larger space with all the same cool, rustic vibe as the Cocoon, check it out under our listings.
There is a keypad on the entrance to the apartment so that guests may enter at their convenience with a personalized code. Hosts live nearby should a need arise and are available to you through messaging.Neighborhood overview
PLEASE READ: The Cocoon is located in a lower income diverse neighborhood called College Hill just one block south of the Federal Hill historic district. Getting around
In the neighborhood, you'll see tight-knit community. You’ll see elderly people who were born and raised there and youth walking home from our award-winning historic middle school just one block away. You may hear people greeting one another loudly or enjoying music on a nice day. You'll see people working hard to break the vicious cycle of generational poverty.
We believe this neighborhood has tremendous unseen resources though it's been marginalized and stigmatized for decades. Its value isn't in its monetary power, but in its resilient people who know how to make something out of nothing.
Here's what one guest said about her time at the Cocoon: "This property held me and ushered me to healing in one of my darkest seasons...allowing me to spread my wings."
We invite you to come with an open heart and enjoy a stay at the Cocoon.
